Question Yellowish budgie - female or male

Hello all, Iíve had these cuties for about 3 weeks now. They are roughly 10 months old. Iím pretty sure the blueish one is a female. Iím on the fence about the yellow budgie. Iím thinking it might be a male.

Iíve seen them feed and groom each other, but the female takes the lead. Iíd think if he was the male, wouldnít he do the ďcourting Ē?

Hi there and to the forums!

You're absolutely right, the yellow little one is a male and the blue girl is a female As you have a mixed-gender pair, it's important you everything you can to discourage breeding

Here's a link below detailing exactly how to do that:
https://www.talkbudgies.com/budgie-br...want-eggs.html

Be sure to read through all the rest of the forum's many articles and stickies that we have here! If you have any questions after reading through everything, be sure to ask as we'd love to help.

Best wishes!

Thank you! Will absolutely go through the links!

Just wondering about the behavior... is it normal for the female to take the lead in feeding and grooming?

Welcome! I don't have more than one budgie, but I think it can be normal for the female to lead- they all have their own personalities, and maybe she's just the more dominant of the two

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Your budgies are quite cute!

Budgies each have unique personalities just like humans and other animals. When it comes to "courting" it is normal for it to be instigated by either gender.

As said, since you have a mixed gender pair, please be sure you do everything necessary to avoid them breeding.

I would also suggest removing the wooden dowel perch(es) and replacing them with natural wood perches of varying diameters to help prevent pressure sores.
