Default Meet Blushy

My daughter who is 11 just got a sweet little baby who she has decided to name Blushy. I feel pretty confident that Blushy is a boy...but the previous owner said girl. What do you think?

Also what type of parakeet is this? I was reading about mutations last night but that would be the first time I have read about it. If I was to guess from one night of reading I would say Blushy is albino with fallon eyes. Yes? No? I really have no idea.

Pretty sure Blushy is a girl, and I don’t know about mutations so... you sound right!
Blushy is so cute!

Hello and

You have come to the right place to learn more about best practices in budgie care. I highly encourage you to read all the stickies and articles.

Blushy appears to be a female albino. It is a little hard to tell from the pictures for certain. Are her eyes redish? Is there any color other than white on her? The blue cere with white around the nares (nostrils) is a sign she is female.

Best of luck to you and your daughter with her sweet feathered friend.

Thanks Goldenwing

I already have two parakeets and have been on your forum for a couple of months now so I've read most of the stickies already if not all of them.

Her eyes are reddish and there isn't any other color on her. Her spot on her cheek seems more white than the rest of her white feathers.

Yep, definitely sounds like albino. My little one is a lutino (like an albino but green series), so it is one of the few mutations I am more confident with identifying.

Sorry I missed that you had been on here for awhile. What is your other bird's name?

I have two but recently separated them because the younger one kept trying to keep the older one from the food bowls. And the older one kept regurgitating any food he was getting to feed the younger one. I have a green one named Taco and a Blue one named Rocko.

Blushy is a beautiful little girl.
I'm hoping you are going to be housing her separately from Taco and Rocko on a permanent basis - is that correct?

Besides concerns about breeding or uneven numbers is there a reason Blushy should permanently be separate from Taco and Rocko?

Breeding and uneven numbers are the main long-term reason. Also in the short term, Blushy needs to be quarantined.
