Default Sexing my budgies

Hello i have recently brought 2 budgies and i am new to owning budgies so it would be great if someone was able to tell me whether my birds were males or females, thanks.
Sorry if the photo is not close enough unfortunately i can't get another decent photo right now as their faces are covered in strawberry and most other photos i have are blurry.

Hi there

The white is a female, and the yellow is male.

Beautiful birds! You’ve come to the right place to learn all about budgies and their care. Please read over the Stickies posts and Articles, as these contain valuable information, and answer many common questions.

Since you have a male and female, you’ll want to take steps to avoid getting them into breeding mode. Be sure not to put any nests in the cage, or even toys or beds that can serve as a nest. That is all my pair needs to keep them “platonic”, but many budgies also need reinforcement such as rearranging the perches and toy positions on a regular basis, and giving no more than 8-10 hours of daylight.

Keep in mind too, that mirrored toys aren’t the best for mental health of your budgies, and we encourage members to use other types of toys instead. Commonly, Budgies will become more aggressive or sexually frustrated, and obsessively regurgitate to the reflection in the mirror. Budgies love small shreddable toys, soft wood like balsa or yucca, bells, and swings.

Looking forward to hearing more about your new little ones!

@RavensGryf thank you so much i had a difficult time telling and thank you for the advice i was thinking of getting them a hammock or something like that but now i think i will avoid that i also would wonder if maybe you were able to tell the age of budgies at all? i brought both of them from the same shop at the same time so i am pretty sure they'd be around the same age. My budgies don't really pay attention to the mirrors but more play with the bells but i will buy some new toys and remove the mirrors

Hi Caterina and to the forums!

Your birds are beautiful! Julie is correct, the yellow looks to be male and the white is female.

Budgies don't need huts or hammocks so I'm glad you're not getting them one It could be dangerous to them as well as promote egg-laying, anyways. It's good that they'll be getting new toys as well! You should also get them new perches as the dowel-style perches are not good for their feet and can lead to bumble foot. Instead, natural wood perches of different textures and widths would be best!

Since you have a mixed-gender pair, be sue you're doing all you can to discourage egg-laying: https://www.talkbudgies.com/budgie-b...want-eggs.html

You've come to the best place to learn even more about the best possible budgie care practices. Be sure to read through the forum's many budgie articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on everything. If you have any questions after reading through everything, be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

We hope to see more of your budgies soon, keep us posted on how they're doing!

Cheers
