Hoping for a girl because I have two males and female already! Will a third boy cause fighting or will they be okay?

Thanks, Rachel :-) x

Hi there and to the forums!

Nope, he's a boy He's very adorable, too.

Are there two budgies you have currently that have a stronger bond amongst them, even a little? If so, you can introduce the "third wheel" budgie with the new one after quarantine in a separate cage. Most likely, three males and a female will cause fighting, especially when they are in breeding condition.

Housing two pairs in separate cages is the best way to do this You can keep the cages in the same room and let them out to play together if they get along, but should house them separately.

Be sure to quarantine the new guy in a cage by himself in a different room for at least 40 days to ensure he's not carrying any hidden diseases and to let him settle in to the environment in a stress-free way. Once he's comfortable with you guys and his environment, you can slowly introduce him to the other budgies and if there's no identifiable "third wheel budgie" from the original trio, see if he gets along better with one of them than with the other two. Either way, you should house him with only one other budgie eventually.

Does that make sense?

Anyways, you've come to the best possible place to learn even more about budgies! Be sure to check the budgie articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on the very best of budgie care practices. If you have any questions after reading through everything, be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

We hope to see you around the forums, as well as your sweet budgies!

Cheers

Your boy is a very beautiful color!

You have received good advice already. Just don't forget to do everything you can to avoid breeding since you have a female and males.
