Newbie here in all forms, recently got a budgie and am working toward gaining his (?) trust. Fairly certain that he's male, though not 100%. Named him Sprite, and though I've had him for 2 weeks now I haven't been successful in diversifying his diet. I give him options but he wont try them. Took 4 days to get him to take millet! He seems to be taking to our home without too many issues. He doesn't panic, but he doesn't want to step up just yet. He plays catch with his swing toy.

If his cere is a pinky-purple as I see on my desktop, it's a boy. Dark eyes and barred
forehead, he's somewhere between 3 and 6 months. Give him plenty of time to settle in and follow the resources available on this site (best site around for anything budgie).
At this age, he should be a lot of fun to work with but go slowly and don't try to force him to do things. Right now you're just gaining his trust. Just spend as much time around him, talking to him, always moving slowly. As he shows more interest in you, reward him with millet, always being positive. Enjoy. Budgies are a big parrot in a little package.

Hi there and to the forums!

Phil has given you great advice, Sprite is indeed a little boy

He's adorable!

However, since you've only had him for a few days, you might need to step back a little and give him space to settle in. Usually, it's recommended that you do not try to touch or tame your budgie for the first two weeks to give him time to settle in. During this time, you should spend lots of time with him by his cage, reading, talking, singing to him, etc. to ensure he's getting used to your voice and presence.

After this time, you can start again with the step-up training Right now, try to offer veggies every day, but don't worry about converting diets until he's more settled in.

Meanwhile, you've come to the best place to learn even more about the best of budgie care practices! Be sure to read through the forums' many budgie articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on everything! If you have any questions after reading through everything, be sure to ask as we'd love to help.

We hope to see more of Sprite soon! He's adorable

Cheers
