Can't figure out the gender of my!
Hello! I'm new to this forum. I'm 30 years old and used to breed budgies when I was a teen...and am looking to get back into I'm relearning everything. My daughter and I adopted our first budgie a few weeks ago and despite doing a ton of research and looking at pictures, I still can't for the life of me figure out its gender!! I'm not sure if he/she is still too young to determine or if it's in plain site and I'm just missing it. I'll attach a picture and would appreciate any help :green plet:

I'm thinking boy because of the blue, but there is quite a lot of white and still not enough bluish/purple to be BOY.

Hi there :welcome:

You have a cute baby girl there! Immature females have a light blueish white cere with a chalky appearance. Young males will have a pink or lavender cere.

We have a ton of current information on the best practices for keeping budgies happy and healthy. Many things have changed since you were involved with budgies in your teens, so by reading the Stickies and Articles (which we recommend all new members do) you will find useful and interesting information to apply to your new girl. You’ll also find answers to many common questions. If you need help, we’re here. Do you have a name for your budgie yet?

A nice young female. You've come to the best resource for excellent information. As Julie said, the chalky blue cere shows a girl at this age.

Hi there and :welcome: to the forums!

You do indeed have a gorgeous little girl ;) She's beautiful!

We recommend you remove the mirror, as budgies can get too attached to their own reflection, leading to territorial behavior, aggression, depression (when the "other budgie" doesn't reciprocate), etc. Additionally, you should remove all the plastic perches from your little one's cage and replace them with natural wood perches of different shapes and sizes :D

As mentioned, a lot has changed with regards to "best practices" for keeping budgies, so have a look around at all the budgie articles and forum "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on all the best information!

If you have any questions after reading though everything, be sure to ask as we'd love to help :p

Hope to see you around!
