Default Approx how old and gender?

Hello everyone! Meet my buddy - Marley!
I got Marley for about 30 days now, when I bought him, the staff said he's about 3 months old, but it's been one month and the pattern of bars on his head still looks the same as when I got him...
Is he really 4 months old now?
And... I just guess it's a boy (from his behaviour), can anyone tell me is it really a boy?

Thank you

Yeah He looks about 3-4 months old, his bars are starting to fade. And he is a male. Just an FIY behaviour is not an accurate way to determine gender.

Thank you so much! Yea I know the right way is to look at the cere, but the staff from petshop said Marley is a girl, and my vet said it's too early to tell I can't explain why but from the moment I saw him, I felt Marley is a boy.
Thank you again!!

Pet shop staff often don't know what they're talking about. It's a common misconception that pink means female.

Is your vet an avian vet? It's odd they wouldn't be able to sex your budgie.

Congratulations on your new baby! Marley is a handsome little boy. As mentioned above, behavior is never an accurate indicator of gender. Typically, pet shop employees don’t have a clue about telling a budgie’s gender, and surprisingly, many avian vets don’t either. If you know what to look for, you can tell a baby budgie’s gender quite early. I can see some white cap feathers coming in. Some budgies are farther along by 4 months, but they’re all individuals. I don’t see any reason to believe that he’s not 4 months old.

Thanks for all the reply! Yes, we went to a registered avian vet, and she wasn't able to confirm the gender. But she did confirm that he's a healthy little bird (which is more important, haha). And she told me that many budgies would never get close to their owners so don't feel upset when that happened to me. I'm glad that it's not our case, even though Marley wasn't hand-fed, but he's bonding with human and seeks people's attention all the time, lol.
