Hi everyone. I have 4 beautiful and super sweet budgies. Two with tan Ceres and two with blue. My understanding is that the blues are the males but I saw on a recent post a picture of a budgie who's Cere looks more blue than tan and everyone's saying it's a girl? Help!!

Hello Andruefrog! If you would send us some pictures that would help. To determine a budgies gender you look at the cere, or nose. Depending on how mature your budgie is the easier it is to tell its gender. If it has a tan cere it is definitely a girl. If it has a pure blue/purple cere it is a boy, the younger the budgie is the more difficult it is to tell its gender if it has blue on all of its cere except for a small ring of white around each of the nostrils it is a girl. Some times you just have to wait to see what they are. Hope this helped! -YellowFeather1

Hello

Please submit clear, close, frontal view photos of your budgie taken in a room with a good amount of natural daylight coming in. We can then determine the gender of your budgie in question.

The best way to post photos on Talk Budgies, is to use a photo sharing service (Imgur and others similar).

Also, take a look at our Stickies and Articles. We ask that all members read these. They contain some important information on keeping budgies happy and well. You’ll also find answers to many common questions.

Looking forward to seeing your budgies!

Hi there and to the forums!

You've been given great advice above; the best thing to do is post full-frontal cere photos taken in natural light so we can identify your little one's gender.

Females have tan or pale blue ceres with lots of white which turn brown when they are in condition, while males have dark blue ceres with no white.

Meanwhile, you've come to a great place to learn even more about budgies! Be sure to read through the forums' many budgie articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subform for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on everything. If you have questions after doing so, feel free to ask as we'd love to help!

Cheers, we hope to see your budgies soon!
