Default New Brother or Sister

First I want to say thank you for all the advise on my first baby! Due to him still being very shy, I thought a companion would be best. I brought the new bird home and within 2 days they are best buds. I would like to just know sex, age if possible and what kind? Thank you so much, I got the best pictures I could!

Due to the quality of the photos and the lighting, it’s too hard to tell for sure. To accurately confirm gender, we need a close, clear, frontal view, in good natural lighting.

Something important I want to tell you about is quarantine. Have you heard of this practice? Whenever we bring a new bird home, we want to keep it quarantined away from the existing bird(s) for a minimum of 30-45 days. This is because birds hide their illnesses very well. You can’t always visually tell a bird is sick until they’re in the later stages when they can no longer hide the illness. Birds have more deadly contagious illnesses than our pet mammals, that can’t be vaccinated for, so we need to take these precautions with birds.

We say a minimum of a month, because this is a time (when changing environments and routines) when the bird is highly stressed, and stress is more likely to bring out illness. That’s not to say it can’t happen later on too, but with daily observation of your birds you should be able to see any changes.

It’s not too late to quarantine starting now. Here is a link that gives you details on quarantine and why we need do it as responsible owners. https://www.talkbudgies.com/new-budg...necessary.html

I also can't tell from those pics, but agree with Julie re. quarantine!

Unless you got the new budgie from the same place as the other one, within two weeks of each other, you must quarantine them!

Default Retakes Of Pictures

It took half a day but I finally got him/her in the cage. I retook these pictures in another room. Hopefully these are better. If not I will have to wait to take the birds out in the spring. Thank you!

I believe she is a female budgie. She is a good and healthy looking bird. Looks great. You are taking good care of your first bird getting a bird pal for him.

Your new little budgie girl is absolutely beautiful.
What have you named her?

Quarantine means housing the new bird in a different cage in a different room than the current bird (as far away from the room the current bird is in as possible) for a period of 35-45 days.

Budgies mask symptoms when they are ill. Symptoms may not show up for over two weeks.
Often you will not even realize your bird is not well. Many budgie illnesses are airborne which is why you need to quarantine your new bird in a completely different room.

It is also a good idea to always take a new budgie in to see an Avian Vet for a "well-birdie" check-up. This allows you to develop a good relationship with the vet and the vet can establish a baseline for your bird in case of any future illnesses or injuries.

Thank you! I named her Lily to match my other bird. She is now in a different cage in my room for the time being. I do have an Avian vet that all my birds go to. I have a Quaker Parrot as well, she's another story HAHA. I'm guessing my new girl is around 5 to 6 months old? I was also wondering if anyone new what kind she was. I can guess all day long but I'm still not an expert!
