Went to a local bird fair yesterday with my daughters. They have been saving up and researching to get two budgies. We believe we know their sexes but wanted to see what y’all thought. The lighter one is Avian. The darker blue one is Atticus (Not a finch). Looking forward to hearing yalls ideas. Also additional info. They both chatter a lot but darker is more so (we believe that is our boy). We believe the lighter one is a girl. Also Atticus’s beak has dark spots. I was told it’s because (he) is still a baby.
Welcome to the forum, your new babies are adorable. I tend to agree with you on the gender of them however if the pictures were taken with a flash that can wash out the color a bit and sometimes a boy is mistaken for a girl, was a flash used for the picture? You are correct that the dark spots on the beak are because he is still a baby, that will fade away soon. Hope to see more of them as they grow.
Hello and welcome! It’s lovely to meet you, Avian and Atticus and I hope we will see lots of pics of your gorgeous budgies in the future. Be sure to check out all the information the forum has to offer, especially the ‘stickies’. You’ll find the latest, up to date information on every topic imaginable and if you ever have any questions, everyone here is so friendly and always happy to help.

Hi! :welcome: to Talk Budgies
From the pictures, I agree that Atticus is a male and Avian is female. They are very cute.
As you have a mixed gender pair, it is going to be extremely important you do everything necessary to discourage breeding behaviors.

Rearranging their cage frequently, and limiting the light they get to 8 hours a day will help tremendously. Please be sure you never put a nest box or anything that could be used as a nesting site in their cage.
When they come into condition, limit the amount of protein in their diet at that time. :)

Hi there and :welcome: to the forums!
Your daughters' new budgies are adorable. I also am tending to agree on their genders, but closer/clearer pictures of Avian's cere would be good to confirm :D
I hope to see more of them around here!
I'm glad your daughter has done so much research and you've come to a great place to continue that research. Be sure to read through the links provided by FaeryBee, and feel free to ask if you have any questions afterwards!
I also agree about more pics for Avian’s cere. Atticus is a little male. Avian is probably female, but some males can have a little more white on the cere than others. Also, photos can make a male look female. :)
