I would say you have a female, and a very pretty one at that. She’s lovely. What’s her name?

thank you guys, she is called Poppy. I did think it she was female but i had a chap come round to collect a sofa and hes a breeder. He said it he was male but everyone else said female including the breeder which i bought her off.

She is a right madame. Ive tried my best to tame her but she just will not have it. Some days she lets me stroke her belly, other days i only have to look at her and she seems annoyed.

Today i have just been and got her a friend in the hopes it will cheer her up. ive got them housed seperatly at the minute but instend to let them stay together. Poppy looks confused but also happy that a new friend has appeared in a cage next to hers. Attached is a photo of Buddy. We have given him a boys name but ive no idea on gender, maybe its still abit early to till but attached is a photo, its side on but dont wanna upset Buddy just yet with a camera. Any info on gender would be appreaciated. Buddy was born 25th Sept so is just about 3 months old

Buddy is a very pretty bird but I cannot see enough of the cere to determine the gender, when you can get a frontal picture in natural light it will be easier to give an opinion. Please observe the quarantine rules, which means that they should be housed separately for at least 30 days, if you cannot keep them in separate rooms then do not put the cages next to one another. The quarantine period protects Poppy, if Buddy is harboring any illness you would not want it to be passed to Poppy and usually if there are any issues with the health of a new bird you should see signs within the first 30 days. Looking forward to seeing more of both of them.

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Poppy is a pretty girl and from the little I can see of Buddy's cere I believe you have a male. However a full frontal picture taken in natural light is needed for accuracy.

I agree with Cody that need to have Buddy in quarantine right now.
Quarantine means housing the new bird in a different cage in a different room than the current bird (as far away from the room the current bird is in as possible) for a period of 35-45 days.

Budgies mask symptoms when they are ill. Symptoms may not show up for over two weeks.
Often you will not even realize your bird is not well. Many budgie illnesses are airborne which is why you need to quarantine your new bird in a completely different room.

It is also a good idea to always take a new budgie in to see an Avian Vet for a "well-birdie" check-up. This allows you to develop a good relationship with the vet and the vet can establish a baseline for your bird in case of any future illnesses or injuries.

If it turns out you do have a mixed gender pair, it is very important you do everything possible to prevent breeding.
