Default Cereal

Today Mally saw me eating cereal as a quick snack. Because it was crunchy and I was eating it in front of her, she naturally wanted some. I made sure before to look at the ingredients, and we eat very healthily anyways, so I wasn't to worried about the cereal ingredients. It is a cereal called "Freedom" cereal and she loves it! It has hardly any sugars or salt, and has whole grains in it. It's kind of like cheerios, except shaped like Legos and everything is organic and non GMO!
Anyway, I've never seen her eat anything so fast! Except cheese (only a little for special occasions!) and romaine lettuce. She loves those too

Maybe it will encourage her to eat her pellets! I read the post about how to convert to pellets and will probably try some of those methods since although I've caught her eating a few pellets here and there, she still chucks them all out in favor of seeds

Anyone else's birds like cereal?
What about pellets?

All of my birds eat pellets. They generally have 2 or 3 food dishes in each cage with different types of pellets in each one 24/7.

I use Roudybush or Zupreem Natural Pellets, Zupreem Avian Entrees Garden Harvest Pellets and Zupreem Fruity Pellets.

Mine like cooked quinoa or cooked oats. Cooked rice is also fine to give your budgies.

I don't buy cold cereal so mine haven't been given Cheerios but many budgies do like those and my mother had one when I was a small child that ate Cheerios off my high-chair tray.

Yes, the pellets she's getting right now are ZuPreem fruity. She sometimes eats them...Or maybe I'm imagining it
She still has to try rice! I'm sure she would like it though.

My budgies love cooked oatmeal and Budget loves Allbran flakes as well? If he sees me eating these he will try to get them out of my mouth

Oh yes indeed, someone likes his cereal: Aussie Birds - YouTube
I can't eat cereal, toast or rice crackers around Wiki unless I am prepared to share. If he hears me open a packet of rice crackers, it's like something out of Hitchcock's "The Birds" - he'll be climbing all over me trying to get his beak on one. I definitely use this when it comes to getting him to eat veggies.. if I'm eating it, must be good!

My own Sammy will take a flake of my fruit and fibre breakfast cereal before I start eating out of it in the morning. But if I try to peel a mandarin in the same room, he goes crazy! He loves to eat mandarins and will climb all over me while I'm trying to peel and give him a small piece!

Haha! That's great, you guys! Today she finished her seeds in her bowl (she picks them all out :argh and as soon as I got home she flew onto me and refused to leave until I gave her more seeds! I gave her a few, but put more pellets in her bowl! I have no idea if she even eats the pellets but her poops are more brown now instead of black so I guess she must eat some.....

Ah well, with perseverance, triumph!

Cheers

Aww some really nice little stories here about everyone's budgies!

I have to try some of these ideas with Olaf! (I don't eat as healthily as I try to make Olaf eat so he's never normally jealous of my "fat food" - he does look at me in disgust though haha)

Hi, I've been reading on here about pellets, but they don't seem to sell them in my local shops, perhaps I'll try online if it is that beneficial for them. And Blue does love cereal...when it is in my youngest sons' bowl! I have looped some cheerios onto some string to tie into his cage...it'll take a while before he's brave enough to investigate it, although I am sure it won't taste as good as somebody else's! Haha

Some of my birds will pick at pellets but none really like them. Two of my birds love Cherrios. I will crush a few up in my hand and as I am doing it one of the birds tries to imitate the crushing sound and it sounds like he is grinding rocks in his beak, it is really funny.
