OK, so you know when YOU know something is OK for your budgie, but a little know-it-all claims something different and it puts a seed of doubt in your mind? Well, I know satsumas/oranges/clementines etc are ok for budgies, but this know-it-all commented on something I posted on Facebook about it, claiming that due to her extensive budgie-keeping history (and knowing her background, I am inclined to disbelieve this), she knows that you have to watch the acidity levels when feeding birds any citrus food. I've looked all over and I can't see anything that relates to satsumas (lemons and limes, yes, but not the orange family)! Is she right?

I have given oranges and mandarins to all my birds including budgies and it certainly hasn't hurt any of them. Mind you I feed it sparingly. Too much of anything is bad. I grow my own mandarins and oranges so have a good supply of both and more than I can eat.

Does she also disagree with using Apple Cider Vinegar with the birds water. If she agrees that ACV is fine then she defeats her own argument. Can't get anything more acid than ACV.

There is some truth in it... You should watch how much citrus you give your budgies. Since their digestive system is tiny in comparison to other birds the acid levels could prove to be harmful....

ACV is given in a diluted way, if you gave ACV directly to your budgie, it may be harmful.

Everything ((Except what's toxic to them)) is fine in moderation, just don't feed them oranges every single day, and they should be fine.

My vet said that too much citrus (as in, every day) could affect the pH level of your budgie's digestive system - I hope I'm translating that properly!

I also feed Sammy clementines and mandarins (his fave!) but only once or twice a week max.
