Default Paddy Rice

My local bird store sells small packets of seeds, grains, nuts, etc... mostly for the huge parrots, but some for us budgie people...
I mostly buy oat groats, nyjer, red millet, flax... today, I got really out of my comfort zone .. and tried.. PADDY RICE>
Because I'm not all that sure about this and haven't heard any recent comments about it...
Is it safe? Does anyone use it? It looks like it's still in it's little hull.. looks to me a lot like oat groats.
I'll research it online, but just wondered if any of you have experience with it.. Is it just regular rice... Isn't all rice technically paddy rice??

Feeling sort of dumb for buying without knowing, but hey.. small packet for $.75
Worth the big price tag???

Birds Online has this to say:
Paddy rice: Paddy rice is a more or less unknown sort of food for small pet birds such as budgies even though many of these animals like this food. Since paddy rice is quite large and the seeds are very firm, most small birds are unable to eat dry paddy rice. But if you use paddy rice as an ingredient of your seed mixture for sprouting, the birds will be able to eat the seeds and their seedlings. But make sure that you add only about 1% of paddy rice to the seed mixture to prevent an unbalanced diet. Birds who eat too much rice are in danger of showing a lack of vitamins and other nutrients on the long run.
I also learned that, yes, paddy rice is the beginning of all rice products. It has the hull removed (see what I know?), but hasn't been processed.
Soo... probably better for bigger birds unless soaked or cooked, don't you think? And only a small amount, used occasionally.
Back to oat groats and red millet and....

Interesting discovery about paddy rice, Judy, I never would have guessed!
I think it would be better cooked anyways--regular rice should always be offered cooked as it expands in the crop and could choke the little budgie.

Either way, let us know if the little birds like it! Maybe mixed with some quinoa or veggies
Mmm, sounds good!

Thanks... I didn't even think about it expanding in the crop...
Yes, it sounds really good with the veggies and stuff.. Let's have it with your Asian bean cakes from earlier today!! Darn it, now I'm hungry!!!
