Default Sprouts. What kind?

My sweet Rico still won't touch veggies or any fruit but he is now sprout obsessed! I'm happy he will at least eat those. I purchased a 4 tray sprout grower (should be delivered next week). So far I have just sprouted him millet and chia seeds in a dish. What other kinds of seeds are safe to sprout for him?

I found this list online of sprouts for birds. Is there anything on this list he should NOT have? I remember reading beans weren't good for budgies...maybe I was mistaken or are the sprouts different?

I appreciate any advice!

Sprouting seeds?

Herb seeds:
Alfalfa
Bishop?s weed seeds
Broccoli
Canola
Fennel
Fenugreek

Oil seeds:

Thank you! -Lisa & Rico

Hi Lisa!

I buy my seed mix for sprouting pre-mixed. I get them here:https://sproutpeople.org/just-for-pets/bird-seed-mixes/

Even if you're not looking to buy from them, you can look at the ingredient list

Sprouts are at their nutritional best up to the point where the tails (sprouts) are only 1.5in long after that they start to change their chemical makeup.

If you can find information from Carolyn Swicegood, she has good advice on sprouting.
Landofvos has been closed so you will have to find her on facebook I think.

Perfect! Thank you! I'm glad they list the ingredients. I'd like to try them all separate to see which he likes. Plus we humans plan on trying them too. I noted the ingredients for the little bird mix. I'll stop by our natural store tomorrow.

I'll start keeping better eye on how big my sprouts are getting. I've been giving them to him the second I start seeing them open (a pinch at a time). Once they get as big as in the photo I let him have free range on the dish and throw them out at the end of the day. He loves this!
