Default Is it me or does Ziggy have some chunk a lunk

Woot Woot It seems like Ziggy has pulled out of her funk and is back to her normal squawky self. Hopefully I did this right and there will be a picture of her attached. Were in the process of trying to get her on fresh food and not only seed. You can't tell by the picture but she is a very tiny bird all the other birds at the store were a forth bigger then her. When she was weighed at the vet she only weighed 28g. And I know That's usually underweight but is it me or is that chunk a lunk? Or am I just crazy?

You're correct that this usually indicates excess belly fat, but sometimes it's just the way the feathers lie against the body and considering how much she weighs, I don't think she's overweight.
I'm glad you're working on some dietary changes--chunky or not, all birds benefit from a better diet.
I would also recommend switching her onto pellets too!

Ziggy is quite a gorgeous girl! Good to hear she's up to all her old tricks again

I'm sure the vet would have told you if he thought Ziggy was overweight when you had her in for her appointment.

It's wonderful you are working to ensure she has a healthy diet.

You might want to take a look at this link for some ideas on a healthy diet for your sweet little girl:

Thanks guys! I wasn't sure if I had gone overboard giving her millet while she was under the weather. I started this morning with a bit of apple she seemed unimpressed lol. Im thinking Im going to be trying some red pepper again. The first time I tried it she ran right up to it, didn't eat it but seemed excited. I will be looking into sprouting Thanks again

Remember she is just a baby and is supposed to be a little chubby. 28 grams is fine for her. As her body grows the 'fat' will redistribute and she will be long and lean. When a budgie is under the weather give them what ever works to keep them eating weight adjustment can happen later. What a little cutie. Blessings, Jo Ann

Thanks Jo Ann! I never occurred to me that it could be baby fat Lol. I guess I lucked out while she was sick her appetite don't seem to diminish. Even now she's a chow hound she's currently going to town on an edible perch made of alfalfa and honey. I kno w not the healthiest thing she can be eating but Well get there

She's a beautiful little baby, your Ziggy! Don't worry about her being only 28g, she's still growing. I was concerned about that with my own, but everyone here told me it was fine. Mine went from 25g at about 3 months, to 29g at 5 months and is now 32g at 8 months. I hope you get your little girl to eat a healthy diet!
