Yay and hooray! This morning for the first time Clouds (aka Seed-Junky) has shown interest in a leafy green in the form of chick weed. Fingers crossed this the start of his new healthy diet.
It was only last week that he started to show interest in something else than his seeds mix, but it was a sort of half-progress as it was still only seeds -albeit from green winter grass from our garden. Lately he was getting really excited every time I came back from the garden -he knew what was coming then
Today, after trying all sorts of things, cooked and raw, wild or grown, I finally found chick weed in my hunt from more ripe winter grasses. I got some in, not really believing that he would touch but lo and behold, he has eaten a few leaves of it, even neglecting his beloved winter grass for a nibble.
I'll give him more tomorrow (now that I know where to find it) and keep hoping that he'll show increasing interest for new (and green) foods.
Yesterday, in desperation, I bought a bag of Australian made budgies crumbs that are packed with vitamins and minerals. No additives or colorants in there, which is nice. I just sprinkled a little on his afternoon seeds. At first he turned away from the lot but hunger got the most of him in the end
I can't say he actually ate any of the crumbs but he must have got some of it if only by mistake.
I wonder what the breeder was giving them in their aviary. We never got a chance to talk to him. Is the reluctance for new food part of the settling-in process or the result of previous poor diet?
Anyway, with a bit of luck and a lot of persistence we'll see the end of it soon
