After doing my own research on this forum and other sources on pet bird diets I came up with my personal "ideal" for my birds.
I am aiming for 50/50 split of sprouted seeds and pellets, with millet as a treat. And veggies and fruit as enrichment as opposed to nutrition.
I found the budgies eat about
2tsp of food a day. So I have been measuring out 1tsp of pellets and 1tsp of sprouted seeds. This made it so I could easily see if they are eating the pellets. The first few days I mixed teh sprouted seeds with the pellets. Because the seeds were damp this made it impossible for them to enjoy their seeds without eating some pellet mash. At the end of the days I have been "topping" them off with seeds to keep them from starving themselves.
Yesterday was the first day I put the seeds and pellets in different dishes, and didn't top off the seeds. By this morning they were both out of seeds, but still had lots of yesterdays pellets. I put off "breakfast" today to see if they'd eat the pellets and... THEY HAVE!
I've caught both of them red handed at different points this morning chomping on their pellets. They look like they have been caught doing something very un-bird-like
They see me watching them and they stop and walk away looking suspisous.
