Default New Diet Plan

I currently have one budgie, Stitches and he's on a diet that consists of a seed mixture as well as pellets. The problem is that I don't think he's eating the pellets and he seems to be picking through the seeds and only eating what he wants. I know this because when I blow the husks out they're always the same seed (the little white round ones) So I was thinking of switching him to just seeds in the morning and then pellets for the rest of the day, that way if I see him eating at night or in the afternoon, I know he's eating the pellets and not just picking through seeds. I was wondering how much seed I should give him in the morning and then how much pellets I should give him for the day (teaspoons, preferably). He's not too active right now, because his wings were clipped when I got him and it's only been about a week or so. He still jumps around his cage sometimes and chirps and squawks while he's at it, though.

If you give him seed in the morning and pellets for the rest of the day, I hate to say this, but he probably won't eat anything at all except for his seed in the morning Budgies are such divas!

Have you tried gradually increasing pellets and decreasing seed gradually over a period of days? Then when you get to all pellets and no seeds you can leave it in his cage the entire day and if he still hasn't tried it, give him seeds the next morning and try again. Most budgies don't even try to eat the pellets as long as they know they have seed.

Another method that works is to crush the pellets and mix it all up with some seed to form a sort of "mash". Hopefully he learns to like his healthy nibbles

The most important thing is--don't give up! Chances are he isn't going to eat it on the first go

If I give him just pellets will that be okay for him though? I know they're supposed to have seeds which was why I wasn't going to take them out completely.

They are supposed to have seeds, just not only seeds. After my little girl started eating pellets, I gave her just pellets for 2 days so she would get used to eating them, and then I introduced seeds back in. Now she gets about 1/3 seeds, 2/3 pellets every day

Balance is always the best diet!
