Question Rescue doesn't want change

Hello everyone

I have 3 parakeets that all live together. The 2 of them (Bonnie & Clyde) i got from a pet store a year ago and the other one (Buck) i adopted 3 months ago. Bonnie & Clyde are both fully on pellets. They eat Fruitblend Zupreem pellets and the Pellet Berries by Lafeber. Buck is still on store bought seed.

Buck was found and rescued from an abandon building. We don't know his history or even how old he is. I am trying to get him to eat pellets but hes not interested. I've caught him multiple times trying to eat with Bonnie & Clyde when they eat their pellets but he realizes it isn't seed and loses interest. I've also tried Nutri-Berries with him but again, he will only eat the seed. I don't know how to go about transitioning him.

Should i wait awhile before trying again? Should i put Bonnie & Clyde back on seed so they can get him to transition?

Thanks in advance!

I would suggest getting Harrison's High Potency Mash and sprinkling it over his seed.
When Buck hulls his seed, he will ingest bits of the mash and will begin to associate the taste with that of a food source.

While doing this, keep super-fine Harrison's pellets in one food dish and a separate food dish with Zupreem Fruity Pellets (Canary Size) accessible in Buck's cage 24/7.

Give Buck his ration of seed each morning and evening.
He should be getting about 2 teaspoons of seed (liberally sprinkled with mash) per day.

My Avian Vet had me use this method with my little Sunny.
Sunny loves his seed and he's learned to partake of some pellets each and every day!
In fact, sometimes he actually goes for his pellets before he heads for his seed ration.

Good luck and let us know how things progress.

Without knowing his background you have to really start from the beginning with him. Budgies are notorious with changing their diet, patience and willingness to not give up are a great help. Trying out Deborah's tip might be just the winner
