There's always more seed in there than it looks like and somebirdie needs to get it.

I save it ALL and, along with pellet crumbs it all goes outside for the birds and chipmunks.

Smile Very Good Question :)

I use a seed separator to separate the seed husks from the seeds.

I throw out the top and top up with seeds. It's not the most efficient method as most of what I throw out seems to contain seed leaving the husks in the dish. (which is why I make sure I top it up with fresh seeds). Actually it's not efficient at all

When I clean the dish I throw out everything onto our garden lawn.

What's a seed separator??

I take the food bowl outside and blow on it. The husks fly away, mostly, although I do seem to get in in my hair and down my bra I shake it gently whilst doing it and it seems to work. Then I top up with new seed .

While dry seed is a rare treat around here in general, I blow all dry seed containers to save as much of the un-touched/un-hulled seed as possible.

No such thing as waste around here if I can help it

Well... I try blowing the chaff off.. but, like it was said, it mostly goes on me or in my clothes.. I tend to use the left overs for foraging on the clean cage floor. If there isn't much left, I dump it and use all new. Not efficient, I know.
PS.. I need advice how to leave the seed outside for birds and squirrels and not my dogs.

None of the above really. They are limited on seed. They get a night feed and day feed. The day feed is only available for 3-4 hours and then gets tossed. Day feeds contain sprouted seed. Night feeds contain dry seed and stay in for 24 hours and tossed. I never feed them more then what they can eat.
