Default Princess Mallorn Harbors a Secret Passion for Corn

Hello all

I know it's been a while since you've seen the Princess and I and it's been crazy busy! Of course, everyone can relate, I'm sure

Anyways, Mallorn loves corn. Frozen thawed is (was!) her favourite (she once ate seven whole kernels without stopping and I thought she was going to choke or something)

Well, I, being the overly worried bird mum that I am, had a little bit of an incident today. Mallorn was flying around, causing trouble as usual, and I was doing some work and trying to eat some freshly cooked popcorn. We make our popcorn in the pot from organic seeds, add a little coconut oil and a sprinkle of salt and that's it. Anways, this little one dove nose first into my bowl of popcorn as soon as I turned my head.

She ate a few bites (she would've eaten more if I would have let her!) but is this in any way detrimental to her?

Anyways, she's miffed that I ate the rest without her but she honestly is such a scallawag!

Thank you all

Don't worry, she'll be fine.

In the future, save a couple of pieces for her before you salt the rest.
That way Mallorn can enjoy her own little snack while you have yours!

Lol, Mallorn is sooo like Jedikeet - another corn-crazy scallawag! Would love to see her nibble salt free popcorn or kernels from a cob. I've tried giving corn to my budgies but they just don't care for it I suppose due to the size and texture, but my GCC Drogon will eat it. Im gonna call Mallorn 'Cornfed' from now on

PM sounds incredibly like I but my addiction is Chocolate, I can scoff down a whole bar and not feel at all bad, sad, or glad as I have finished it and would like more

So we know with certainty what Mallorn's favorite food is!

That would be a good one for bribery... or trick training. Wait, do princesses do tricks? Or are they far too spohisticated and refined for that?

I think most birds love popcorn. Mine do. Nutriberries makes popcorn treats for birds. It has some kind of flavoring on it and seeds stuck to it. It honestly smells so delicious, that immediately sealing the bag and putting it away, is all I can do to keep from trying some. I'm afraid I might like it... and eat more... and eat the whole bag, which would be single serving for a human But human popcorn is much less expensive!

Thank you, Deb This sounds a little hard to believe but Mallorn sees right through me when I try to give her unsalted ones! We have an air popper that pops corn without oil or salt and I often give her a few to nibble on as I eat mine and she takes one look at it and blatantly refuses (no amount of cajoling on my part can make her taste even a nibble), so either she wants exactly what I'm eating or she has figured out my attempts to make her feel like she is actually eating what I'm eating

I guess maybe that's why I figured I could eat some in front of her today since she never, ever tries what I give her but oh, no, no, of course she had to jump in the entire bowl

Haha! Corn is pretty great You should see her scarf down individual kernels (we buy some sweet organic frozen corn that she just loves!) like it's an Olympic sport
Mallorn says she doesn't mind the nickname as long as you put "Princess" in front of it

Oh, goodness, Cathy, sounds like you have a problem! You should consider thinking about the impact that the chocolate---hold on. Let me go eat another bar before I continue...

Haha, she does some tricks, sort of. She flies on command, goes into her cage when asked (is that a trick? ) and gives me kisses when asked. I think that's most of her skills She considers it an art Oh goodness it's honestly ridiculous how bird food is very edible as opposed to fish flakes or cat kibble

Haha you'd have to pay me big bucks for me to try cat chow or fish flakes . Just the pungent, rotten smell alone of fish flakes makes me want to gag .

However, I have tried Harrison's pellets... Can we say pelleted cardboard? The birds all LOVE the stuff. Perhaps the high potency formula would've been a bit richer tasting

I'm not sure what would be the better idea - a corn eating contest between Lemon and Mallorn or just ensuring they are never both in the same room as one corn cob or the whole world might explode from the battle that would ensue!

Haha, I can just imagine the Princess Mallorn diving in the popcorn bowl!

They sure have a natural curiosity for what we are eating, and in my household everybirdie is in their cages during cooking and standard meal times.
Same goes for when I'm eating snacks. When I'm eating my fruit dessert I will sometimes take small pieces of fruit out of my bowl and offer them to the flock and this is before I start eating it, all for hygiene purposes.

As for trying out our pet's food, one time I took a bite on a doggy biscuit because it really seemed delicious, unfortunately in this case appearance was deceiving and it tasted really bad. I've also tried salted sunflower seeds, they are okay, but I much prefer eating walnuts and peanuts instead.
