Default I Made My Budgie Chatter With Delight

When I bought my budgie, I bought some of the food the store owner was feeding him becuae I though, like dogs, bird might get sick with a sudden diet change. That's what I've been feeding him since then until I could research better foods.

It's not a very good quality seed mix. It has only two noticeable seed types, mostly white millet with some kernel-like seeds that have been dyed various colors sprinkled throughout. He doesn't eat the colored ones. I've been offering him fresh fruit and veggies but he hasn't shown any interest in them yet.

Yesterday I bought some Zupreem Fruit-Blend pellets and sprinkled a little on top of his seeds. While he was eating, I heard louder cracks than usual and after he finished he was chattering and singing for a solid half hour and even answering back to my whistles. I checked the bowl and it looked like a lesser amount of pellets but I couldn't be sure if he ate them or buried them while picking out the millet.

Until this morning that is, he had a big giant, soft lighter color poop.

It's great that your budgie decided to try the pellets so quickly.

Some of the information below may be of help to you as you work on converting him to a healthy diet.

https://talkbudgies.com/articles-diet...-seed-mix.html
Good seed brands are:
Dr. Harvey's
Volkmans
To enhance your budgies diet, you can begin introducing vegetables and fruit to them.

It can take several weeks for budgies to decide to try a new food.
Fruit is high in sugar content so vegetables are actually healthier for your budgies with fruits given only occasionally.

Look at the stickies in the Diet and Nutrition section of the forum for lots of good tips on how to introduce new foods to your budgies.
Diet and Nutrition - Talk Budgies Forums

The first vegetable my guys tried (and loved) was sweet corn kernels sprinkled with a teeny bit of garlic powder (NOT salt).
Budgies seem to love "spicy" tastes.
My guys adore fresh basil, cilantro and chickweed.
They also like zucchini and red pepper.

Using ACV in your budgie's water works as a natural probiotic which promotes good digestive health.

With a healthy diet, you should not need any vitamins or supplements other than Vitamin D3 which is used for birds who get limited direct sunlight.

Here is an article about Full Spectrum Lighting:

This link gives you an idea for a small full spectrum light:

You may choose to use a supplement like Soluvite D in addition to a full spectrum light:

Using ACV in your budgies' drinking water serves as a natural pro-biotic and enhances their digestive health.

Can't add to Deb's reply either, but I'm so glad he's taken to the pellets! I'm sure he'll be much happier with the new addition to his diet
