Default Healthier diet for my budgie

I want to be able to feed my budgies vegetables and try to get them to cut down on the seeds since I know it is not good for them. My only problem is I work 10-12 hour shift at work and I can't leave the vegetables out all day. Does anybody know a recipe or have any suggestions on what to feed them while at work for a healthier diet?

Hello and to the forums!

It's great you're taking steps to give your little ones a better diet

Personally, I would start converting them to pellets (lower fat content, more nutrients) so that in the future, during the day they eat both pellets and seeds for a good balance. Put out vegetables as soon as you get back from work every day, too, and take them out before you put them to bed.

Pellets are a good source of some vitamins that budgies need to maintain healthy systems, like choline. Good brands to try are Harrison's, ZuPreem (the xs size) and Roudybush. With any of these, there are a number of ways to introduce them to your birds, but since you'll be gone most of the day I recommend mixing them with their seed in gradually increasing ratios so they figure out it's food. It is a potentially frustrating process, but it will all be worth it when your budgies eat healthier

For more information, there is a Budgie Diet section on the forums with lots of great information and if you have any other questions, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help

It's great to have you with us and we hope to see you and your budgies around the forums!
