Question Budgies Will Not Drink Their Water!

My 3 year old budgies have stopped drinking their water for some reason. They are still eating at their normal pace, but once I went on vacation and my boyfriend took care of them while I was gone they stopped drinking their water and still have not since I have been back (I was only gone for a week!) My boyfriend has helped me take care of them since I got them three years ago, so I know it it not a familiarity issue. They also don't have any behavioral changes. The only thing I can think of is maybe because it has gotten a bit cooler outside lately? I live in Florida so the weather hasn't changed to drastically...They used to get so excited every time I got them new water and they would even play in it in between sips. Now they just look at me like a crazy person when I put it in front of them. Any ideas or advice my budgie-loving friends??

Hi Kelly and to Talk Budgies!

Your budgies must be drinking when you aren't around to see them do so or they couldn't survive.

If the temperature is cooler and the budgies aren't as hot as in the past then it may be they simply aren't as excited about the water when you present it for that reason.

Do you give them tap water or bottled water?
If you are using tap water, there is a chance the additives the water supplier uses has changed somewhat and your bugies don't care for the taste as much as before so they only drink when they are really thirsty.

We'd love to hear more about your budgies and see some pictures of them if you have some you'd like to share.

To familiarize yourself with the forums, please take the time to read through all of the How To Guides, the FAQs and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

Hi Kelly and to the forums!

I agree completely--it's usually hard to know if a budgie has been drinking since you may not see them and the water level goes down so little. But rest assured, they're definitely drinking

We'd love to see your budgies when you get a chance! If you have any questions after reading the links Deborah has provided, feel free to ask

It's great you've decided to join us--hope to see you around!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all of the replies! You are probably right about the cold weather. I think I was just worried about them not drinking water because the level usually goes down much more, but now that I think about it maybe that is because Lime isn't playing in it as much as he usually does because of the cool weather lol. Here is a pic of Lemon (blue) & Lime (green):

They are beautiful! Lemon looks just like my little girl Mallorn--they could be twin sisters!
