Default My birds aren't liking their seeds.... ??

Another goofy question from me.

I started using Zupreem Smart Selects a few months ago. It has the fruit blend pellets and some seeds. I mixed this with some fruit blend pellets, so the mix was about 70-30 pellets to seeds.
They've since sort of lost interest in their seeds. I use a blend of Volkman's and Dr. Harvey's. (again, heavier on the Volkman's, due to cost). They've never liked the dark seeds (Nyjer?) and leave them.

I feed them the pellet blend ( now about 50-50 mixed) in the morning with some seeds on the floor for foraging. I leave pellets out all day for them... Occasionally, I add a few seeds in the pellets.

They get a veggie thing most afternoons.

At night, I offer the pellet mix and separate seed bowls. In the morning, I get a mixture of pellets in the pellet bowl and a mixture of seeds in the seed bowl. And usually far more seeds than pellets.

Am I just feeding too much so they can pick through? Or what??

Here is the link to the Smart Selects on Amazon:

Advice is appreciated.

They only need about 1 1/2 teaspoons of seed each per day.

How much seed are you giving them?

Oh./// maybe just a 'smidge' more . They get that much in the pellet blend and probably a total of a tablespoon of seed. .
You know, I have tendency to overfeed animals.... when I was young, I worked at a barn with neglected and underfed horses/cows/dogs. It has stayed with me all my life and I tend to overcompensate.
I was afraid I was overfeeding.... I will cut back... I'm thinking that's probably it. Sheesh.... probably giving them fatty liver disease by overfeeding.

It is great that they like the pellets so much Judy. Smart selects is a great food, and I pick a bag up every now and again for mine. I agree with Deb on the seed....

Thanks, Faerybee and Jonah....

Since the smart select has seed and pellets, is it adequate nutritionally as a stand alone? Maybe I could just use seeds for foraging? Or .... maybe the need more seeds.... I'll just cut back to your recommendations on seed.
Randy, do your love Smart Selects like mine do??

Judy,

I believe the Smart Select has enough seed along with the pellets to be a stand-alone food source that you could leave in the cage 24/7.

I'd try just giving the budgies a little seed for foraging either in the morning or evening to see if they are interested.
