Default Budgies' diet

Hello everyone! I've had Mexico and Ice for a while now, but I just want to make sure I'm feeding them the right things and the right amount. In their food bowls, about 60% of their food is tropican egg granules (pellets), 40% is budgie seed mix from bulk barn. (It's better quality then you might think) Every other day I try to give them apple or carrot. I give them a spray of millet when they are stressed or they do something good, or do something for a first time and sometimes "just cause." Honey treats about once a month. Should I be giving them anything else? Should I be giving them less of something? More? They seem healthy and happy. Occasionally they also nibble at plain popcorn or Rice Krispies. Any suggestions?

Hi there, I have moved your thread to the Diet and Nutrition section where it's most appropriate.

You are on a good path regarding your budgies' diet and you can work in incorporating more fresh vegetables, leafy greens to add to the carrot.
You can also sprout seeds, budgies love this and it's an easy way to make them more receptive to fresh foods, especially if you are having problems with getting them to eat their veggies.
It's best to reduce the amount of times you offer them fruit (in this case apple) to once a week or once every two weeks depending on the type of fruit.
Since fruit is high in sugar, it's best to offer a tiny piece occasionally.
You can also give them egg food once a week or daily depending if they are moulting or having a health issue that needs a boost in nourishment.

You will find lots of good info and tips by reading the stickies on this section of the forums.

Good luck!

You're birds seemed to be on a good overall diet and I agree with the advice offered by aluz.

I'd also just be wary of giving them millet too often, especially if your birds are being exceptionally good and well behaved. Carrot is something my birds have never taken too and I see so many birds simply love it!

I also have just started the process of sprouting some seeds. I'm hoping this will go well and I can offer it to my birds daily if I get a good system going.
