PeepoDelight is on a distinguished road
Default True Grit!

Our new little budgies have not ventured enough to try their grit box yet. They have enjoyed MUCH food and hanging millet, as well as their water in bottle and water box forms, but they don't seem to have tried their grit.

We were wondering if mixing the grit with their food supply might be the best way of ensuring they get this essential ingredient into their little crops.

Would love to hear what everyone thinks

Hi again,

Budgies don't need grit for digestion purposes and it's not advisable to mix it with their normal food.
Check this link: https://talkbudgies.com/diet-nutritio...ur-budgie.html

They can get the essential minerals and calcium from a mineral block, cuttlefish bone or calcium block. And they will use these items only when their bodies demand it.

This section of the forums has all the detailed info and tips on how to get your budgies on a healthy, varied and balanced diet. Be sure to read the vital info on the Stickies here at the Diet and Nutrition section.

Hi Erin and Matthew, please remove the grit from your budgies cage. It can actually cause them severe health problems. Budgies do not have the same digestive tract as chickens and such. They do not need grit to break down food.

Definitely remove the Grit from the cage immediately.

If you will please take the time to read the Budgie Articles and the stickys at the top of each forum section, you will learn a great deal about budgies and how to give them the best care.

I provided all the links to you in your introductory thread.
