Hi there! Eggs (egg food) are a great supplement to add to our budgies' diet and the amount of times to be offered will depend on the circumstances.
Moulting birds can have daily intake of egg food, the same thing goes for breeding budgies and their growing chicks.
Egg food can also be very useful during periods of illness and convalescence.
Under normal circumstances, you can offer egg food once or twice per week.
You can give the whole egg white and yolk, you can even mix the egg shell for the extra calcium. After hard boiling the egg, you can mash everything up, add some finely chopped up veggies or even sprinkle a few seeds to make it more appealing and encourage your budgies to try out.
hard boiled egg is a good source of protein, but it is fatty so I do not offer it to my budgie more than once or twice a week. egg shell is a good source of calcium if it is mashed and powdered I have read, but I am hesitant that it may hurt my budgie, so I did not try giving it to him. I have the cuttle bone as a calcium supplement to my budgie at all times, I hanged it in his cage. If you are going to put the hard boiled egg in his cage, make sure to remove it after 2-3 hours, egg may go bad, especially if surroundings are warm and make your budgie sick.
