Default Budgie Diet-wondering about extras :)

Hi

I have two young budgies, The Captain, who is about a year old and Angie, who is about four months old. The are given a mixture of seeds and pellets, and pick out most of the seeds. I also give them fresh vegetables and fruits everyday, and they just love them. They go especially nuts over the lettuce, celery leaf, broccoli, cauliflower, and orange slices. They nibble on all the other produce I put in, but they won't touch other types of food. I tried putting a couple pieces of plain popcorn, and a little piece of whole grain toast, but they just ignored it. Should I be trying to feed them some proteins? I've read that some people feed their budgies eggs, but that just kind of seems sad. Is it important for them to have these extra proteins and grains in their diet, and do you have any ideas on how I can convince them it's food?

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Marie,

It sounds as though you are giving your birds a healthy diet for the most part.

Fruit should be limited to once or twice a week as itare high in sugar content.

Your budgies do not need popcorn or bread.
A high quality seed mix, pellets, fresh vegetables, egg food and occasional fruit as a treat is all they need.

Why does it seem "sad" to feed budgies eggs?
The eggs are chicken eggs and the protein is good for the birds, especially when they are molting.

Please take the time to read the information in the attached link.
