Default Growing Cress

I'm thinking about growing cress for my budgies in a pot, an old yogurt pot or something like that, so they'd be able to forage through the potting material. Are there any dangers I should be aware of? I'd like to know what potting materials would be the safest to use. I think I may use sand, the stuff you get in pet shops for hamsters and budgies to bath in.

Soil can contain lots of nasties, and even with sand, budgies can sometimes eat some which can lead to problems later.
Cress seeds will grow quickly on just damp kitchen paper.

Okay if I do go through with growing cress I'll use damp paper. Thank you.

I'll find another way to get them foraging, a puzzle toy or something.

I've used a shallow plastic dish with some wooden beads from old budgie toys and other little bits from budgie toy refill packs and put a few treats at the bottom and the budgies love to rummage for treats like this.
