Default Chitters finally started chewing... On Dowel perches.

Is this safe for him? I ended up not needing to take him to the vet, but he seems to be eating the thin dowel perches of one of his toys. No idea what it's treated with or anything. But it does seem to be very soft... He's still not touching the cuttlefish bone either but finally started taking down the calcium bell again when I moved it.

Jessie,
The fact that Chitters is chewing on the wood of his toys is just fine.
It's normal for budgies to chew on all types of wood.
It is important that you, as the owner, ensure that the wooden toys you give him are safe.
Is the wood on the toy painted or dyed?
Would you please post a picture of it?

It's undyed or anything, I can ask what it's been made with at the pet shop on Friday. For now I gave him another honey seed thing to chew on instead.

It's better he chew on wood or shredding toys rather than having honey seed stick treats.
Those are fattening and should be used very sparingly.

It’s best to replace dowel perches with natural branch perches made for birds. This will prevent Chitters chewing and destroying his perches, but natural perches are also much better for birds’ foot health.

My girl DESTROYS the rungs of her playground ladders with much vigor and amusement. Totally normal. The plain ladders I get are cheaper than some of the toys I buy her so I let her go nuts on them. She likes to shred things so I also got her these bird kabob things....it took about two months before she actually touched them, but now she tears them apart like a maniac....saves the ladders a little bit, but not completely lol. Your guy might like one of those too.
