Default In search of the perfect food dish...

I have transitioned from feeding my budgies to 2-3 meals per day instead of a huge vat of dry seeds. I do this because one of my budgies vastly prefers soaked seeds. Also, they end up eating a greater variety of seeds this way.

Given that I only put 2 tsp in each food bowl at a time, it makes no sense to use a very big or deep food bowl, but that is what my budgies are used to. Plumpy is in one cage and the two new ones, Lily and Kiwi, are in a different cage. They have different eating habits as well.

Plumpy likes to get in the food bowl. She has even done this with a significantly smaller bowl. Lily and Kiwi perch nicely on the edge and drop their empty seeds into a neat pile.

In my head I imagine a shallow, perhaps rounded bottom, food dish to hold the small amount of food at each meal. Ideally the bowl is small enough and with a perch so Plumpy doesn't try to jump in. The thing is, I can't find a food bowl like this! I am searching the internet far and wide which little success. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Is it something like this that you're after? I have the small size that I use for pellets and it's great. One of my budgies does her best to get in and dig but she can't fit. In search of the perfect food dish...-img_3925.jpg

So this is a little silly but I use the lid to a Chinese takeout container as my food bowl
My guys love foraging on the ground but this is a little cleaner and makes it easier to feed their veggies.

Good thought, Blingy. I looked at that one a little, but the dish seems pretty deep for just a few teaspoons. Hmm... but I like the perch. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...9&pcatid=11589

I hadn't thought of foraging... By Chinese takeout container, do you mean a round plastic lid? Or? My only concern with this method is the cage I have is not the biggest and I am worried they will poop on their food dish or it will limit where I can put perches and such... I will think about this some more...

So far have found some possibilities, but they still leave something to be desired....
This first one I ordered and was super excited about it, but then the bowl part does not snap securely into the base and if a bird lands on it, it will fall off...

Thinking about trying this second one, but seems a bit flimsy.

This next one I bet Plumpy could fit right into, but it isn't nearly as deep as what I'm currently using and would fit multiple birds.

These ones are working well for treats or pellets, but not so much for seeds as they are deep and the top fills up really fast with empty seed pods. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...1&pcatid=21011

The one I have is a little deep but I find its not a problem. Both my birds can eat from it easily. I also have one of the clear mess free feeders for their seed, which I love, but those aren't cheap and the birds can easily fit inside it.

By the way, I've been wanting to tell how how much I love the name Plumpy. It's a great name for a budgie.
