Archiesmom is on a distinguished road
Default Vacation Food

Going on vacation, wanted to get something with nutrition without the fuss for the watcher. Fed Higgins Vita Seed for 2 days and a BIG change...Lethagy, hard poops and cranky!

Usually gets Nutriberries (2-3) over real variety of people food (veggies, eggs some fruits) and "Zupreem "sensible seed" she really prefers the "Pure Fun" which to me looked like pure junk. She wont eat the doesn't like millet much either. What should I get her?

If you’re trying to make things easy for your bird’s carer, I’d suggest the following:

1) Draw up a tick off chart, so that things don’t get forgotten. Dates down the first column, jobs along the top row. So things like ‘Remove top layer of soiled paper’, ‘replace water with fresh’ etc

2) As your bird will likely have less (or no) out of cage time, take a look at foraging toys to keep her busy, and try out beforehand (you don’t want her to go hungry if they’re too difficult) - as your bird is used to nutriberries, homemade foraging toys using nutriberries could be premade beforehand for the carer to replace each day.

3) The fresh food - You could prepare veggie chop and freeze in ice cube trays, for the carer to defrost in the fridge the day beforehand. If that’s too much work, then I usually have two pots of herbs fixed to the outside of the cage (so the soil is out of reach) and I poke a few stems through into the cage. Just need to water the pots and poke through the bars when previous stems have been eaten.

Enjoy your vacation

Julia's suggestions are great! I'd highly suggest the chart, and this is a great thread on how to make your own foraging toys. You can have the carer replace the pre-made foraging toys as needed. :>

I do the frozen chop, and highly recommend it. Let us know if you need help preparing it or have questions. Huntercat posted a good recipe here.

I had answered your question about diet in your introductory post but Julia's response is excellent!

Enjoy your vacation!
