Default Trouble Eating

I tried offering Mercedes romaine lettuce and he went straight for it. After a minute I realized he couldn't even take a bite out of it. Keep in mind the leaf was super thin and that was strange. When I first offered it to Trickee he went crazy and had no problem. It seems that Mercedes has always had a problem eating since we got him. At first he had trouble with eating seeds and now he can barely bite into anything. He clearly wants it though because he gets mad when I take it away. I can tell the struggle but I have no idea how to feed him if he can't even take a bite out.

Is he eating his seed, if not it is a serious problem that needs to be resolved. Do you know if he was properly weaned?

When we first got him he was extremely malnourished because he 1. Didn't understand what seed was and 2. The pet store cage was soo overcrowded he was afraid to eat. When we first got him he had loads of trouble opening one seed. It has gotten better over time though and he is starting to gain weight. As for weaning I'm pretty sure he wasn't because he was afraid of seed for weeks until he finally started eating it. His beak is also small which I have noticed. The bottom part is about 1 cm maybe even smaller and the top part is about 3-4 cm long. It looks like he has trouble eating from that too. A lot of stuff falls out or he has trouble even biting into stuff. His beak isn't deformed or anything it just is weirdly small.

I would have him examined by an avian vet and see what they think about the beak, even if it is small he should be able to eat, there may be some type of deformity that you cannot see and the vet will notice it and may be able to do something about it or suggest another way to feed him.

Default Eating Problems (Continued)

I posted a while back about Mercedes having problems eating. This is a still ongoing thing and I waited a while to see if it improved. I've tried feeding him veggies (leafy) and he can't even take a bite out. He has trouble even trying to bite into it. I've noticed his whole mouth is a little small. He doesn't have problem eating seeds but has a problem eating anything other than seeds. I'm planning on taking him to an avian vet in a couple of weeks. But, until then I was wondering what I could try to feed him because I know he isn't getting the nutrients he is supposed to. He has the same as Trickee before with some original seeds and Zupreem mixed in. He also drinks water normally like he should maybe even a little more such as he drinks his bath water when I give him a bath.

I doubt Mercedes’ mouth size is the problem . Most budgies are incredibly stubborn to trying new foods. It often takes a very long time of wasting foods everyday. You can try presenting the leaves in different ways. For example, large, torn in pieces, chopped very small, etc. You can try hanging it in a different location. Maybe by his favorite swing or perch, or toy. Look in the diet section of the forum for more tips.

The problem is he is wanting to eat the leaves. He just cannot bite into it. When I take it away he gets mad but then struggles to bite into it. If he was refusing to eat it I could tell. He opens his beak and tries to bite into it but his beak slips and he can't. I've also tried smaller pieces to no affect.
