Just noticed they maybe seem a little hungry.. gave them some seeds before I go to bed. I use an empty small tuna can maybe it's mid-size to measure it out. I get to make sure they eat all their seeds and pellets. I only have but so much money.
Generally, I feed my girl (she's a single budgie in her own cage) first thing in the morning and she loves seeds so she eats those first, and the rest of the day if she's hungry she eats her pellets. Her pellet bowl is always full so that she doesn't have to go looking for food if she's hungry during the day
and Princess Mallorn!
Thank you to Deb for her wonderful Faery magic
My birds have Zupreem Fruity Pellets, RoudyBush Mini Natural Pellets, Dried Herb Salad and Miracle Meal available at all times.
Their high quality seed mix (Volkmans) is rationed to approximately 2 teaspoons of seed per budgie each day.
I give them seed first thing in the morning right after putting clean packing paper on the bottom grate of the cages.
I sprinkle their morning ration on the paper so they can forage for the seeds.
I then do the same thing in the evenings (after replacing the soiled paper with clean) and again allow them to forage for their seed.
^ My birds used to LOVE foraging for their seed. They were so happy and greatly enjoyed that activity! I had to move out of that room.. Very hot up there, unsafely so, and to let them around to forage, there were a number of things they could get into including an attic so I like my birds so much I actually moved out of there.
I thought they were only supposed to have seeds about 10 to 20 percent of their diet?
I have one bird that really likes millet spray, I sometimes have them eat out of my hand although they prefer to eat when they like lol, and my food collection looks like this:
The information given in my previous post with regard to the amount of seed per budgie per day is accurate.
1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons of seed per day per budgie
Additionally it would be best to use a
proper measuring utensil to ration your bird's seed accurately rather than using a small tuna can.
I have 2 budgies Troy & Risky and we feed them broccoli, carrots, hard boiled eggs, kale, spinach, corn on the cob, and cucumbers. They love it. They usually eat there seeds throughout the day, and veggies in early am and early pm. Just before we cover them for bed they like to eat some of the seeds as well.
