So, this isnt a question about my budgie but about a canary i have. I dont know where to go to ask so im hoping i can get some insight here.
I recently bought 3 canaries and a couple of finches. One male canary has his own cage, and the rest of the birds share one large cage (but my budgie lives in her cage cage too, dont worry.) . I always feed my birds a variety of stuff and sometimes give them hard boiled egg. I noticed that when i give my budgie and larger group of birds egg, theyll eat as much as they feel like eating and always have leftovers for me to throw out. But this specific male, that lives alone, always cleans out his entire portion of egg by the time i come back take the leftover food out.
One thing ill mention is that he is smaller than my other two canaries (i bought 2 from one breeder and this male from a different breeder, so im sure its simply different types of canaries that are the reason for the size difference). But his feathers are also a little scruffy. His tail feathers also dont lay together like a regular tail, but he has his 4 feathers sticking out in different directions. But besides that his colors are vibrant and he is active and sings a lot.
I was just very curious as to why he always eats so much egg. Could he be protein deficient maybe? Could that explain his scruffy feathers? He isnt a frill canary or anything similar. He looks a lot like a red mosaic.
Should i start feeding him eggs more often? I usually limit it to once a week unless the birds are breeding or molting, but should i start giving him more?
