Exclamation Facebook friend's birds may have heavy metal poisoning

Hey everybirdie! I wish I was posting regarding a lighter topic. Lonny was on FB, and saw that there is a person that has a couple budgies with probable heavy metal poisoning. They apparently got to chewing on the solder from some stained glass. She has already taken the birds to the vet and they didn't have the medicine in stock. They ordered it, but because there is an impending storm where she's at, the delivery has been delayed by a couple days. She has started a regimen of charcoal, mineral oil, and water. Is there anything else she can be doing? One of her birds has neurological symptoms, and the other is showing paralysis in it's feet. I know this is not a good situation, but I'm hoping to be able to help her out. There was one person that suggested calcium, but not sure about that. Any speedy suggestions would be amazing! Thank you all so very much! Much love to you all!

Kristen,

I've changed the title of your thread to reflect you are looking for information for a Facebook friend - not for yourself.

I believe it best that the individual read the information which is available through veterinary sources on-line and discuss options with her Avian Vet concerning what is best to use until the medicine which the vet has ordered comes in.

I would also suggest you recommend she join the Talk Budgies forum so she can learn the best practices for caring for her birds.

Best wishes
