Default not laying the egg

Hi there,
My female budgie is laying an egg soon, she became bit heavy and couldn't walk or fly, but she's taking a longer while to lay it this time and i'm getting worried. what's the normal time for laying an egg?

Hi again,

I'm very sorry you are still having problems with your budgie.
Given the past issue with her not feeling well and being quite lethargic, to allow her to potentially breed/lay eggs wasn't a really good decision when taking in account her overall welfare.
While it's true that a hen carrying eggs is a bit heavier (swollen vent), it's not at all normal for them to have mobility problems.

Has your budgie ever lay eggs before? Does she have unlimited access to a reliable calcium source? What type of diet is she on?
Is she pooping well and what size are her poops?

A photo showing the whole vent area would be helpful.
But given the fact that she is having serious mobility problems that are affecting her feet, it's imperative that you seek the professional medical help of an avian vet specialist. You can follow the suggestions and advice given to you on your previous thread: https://talkbudgies.com/diseases-illn...leeps-lot.html

Hey, thank you for your response. she laid the egg, but still is crawling and not moving.

Has your budgie ever lay eggs before?
Yes she has laid many, even tho she breaks them all, but she did lay successfully before.

Does she have unlimited access to a reliable calcium source? What type of diet is she on?
I used to get her a calcium block, but then i stopped getting them because the places that sells them sell weird smelly ones that i'm not used to get. so i turned to natural source for it, which is dark green vegetables.
for her diet consists of cucumber, broccoli, carrots and seeds, sometimes apples.
but i admit, there are days she just eats seeds.

Is she pooping well and what size are her poops?
her poop isn't runny, and is a bit bigger than normal size.

sorry this's the best i could get, I tried giving her a warm bath because of some feathers that are stuck together down there because of the poop, but she refuses, I also tried taking some warm water and cleaning her myself but it's still not working well.

Also i have to ask, yesterday she was able to eat vegetables but today she only wants to eat seeds, do i give it to her?

I'm taking her to a nearby vet i contacted tomorrow. but he has little knowledge of birds, i'm still gonna take a shot rather than just letting her like this.

Look at this site: Association of Avian Veterinarians
it will help you find an avian vet.

Hey, thank you, I've used this site and another site like it before, there were no results. and i know the place i live in well, there're no avian vets, just vets that treat cats or dogs, and they do that poorly sometimes too.

I'm truly sorry for what your budgie has been through...
From the information you have given, chances are quite high that your budgie's calcium levels are severely depleted and that can also explain the lack of strength on her legs causing the mobility problems.
The lack of calcium combined with potential nerve damage from the continued struggle with the contractions when pushing the eggs out (especially bigger eggs) can have that bad consequence.
Sadly there is also the possibility of her not regaining the full function of her legs.
Most likely she will need calcium and vitamin shots to give her a chance and hopefully fix her health issue.

You really need to have your female budgie seen by an avian vet specialist because at this point her life is at risk, especially if she has another egg coming. From the photo you have posted, her vent area looks okay, but this can change if she is to lay another egg and close monitoring is needed.

If your budgie makes through this very difficult ordeal, you will have to do your very best to prevent her from laying more eggs.
This budgie is not fit to breed and has already gone through a lot: https://talkbudgies.com/budgie-breedi...want-eggs.html You need to remove all nesting areas and follow the recommendations on the link.

Keep on giving her the seed mix, the assorted vegetables and most importantly give her egg food. She is very weak and debilitated and the egg food will give her good nourishment.
If you are unable to get good calcium blocks, then you can give her calcium via cuttlefish bone.

I'm praying for the very best for your budgie.
