Default Possible Wing Problem

Hi people,

I bought a budgie from a petshop yesterday.
But, today I saw that her wings arenshorter than a normal budgie. Especially her right wing is shorter than other.

She is 3 months old now and I have another 3 months old bird in another cage.

This one is with short wings.

And that one seems normal to me

Do you think that my first budgie is ill or she is just too young for wing feathers?

Should I take her to an avian vet or not?

And lastly, could you please confirm their gender. I thibk that the 1st one(ill one) is female while 2nd one is male.

Thank you.

Both budgies are very cute.
What have you named them?

The first budgie looks as if it's wings have been clipped by the pet store.

Both budgies appear from the photos to be female.
I see white rings around the nares of the second bird and the cere does not appear to be smooth translucent pinkish purple to me.

Please refer to this link regarding better perches to use for your budgies to prevent pressure sores.
Plastic perches and wooden dowel rods are not recommended.

You might try getting a better photo of #2 without bright light using just natural daylight. Many stores have their birds clipped and it may take quite a while before new feathers grow back. They're not like hair that they just keep growing but the whole clipped feather has to fall out before another will grow in. That's about 14-16 new wing feathers, so just be patient.

Hi FaeryBee

Thank you, One with the short wings Inamed chubby. For rainbow one I named Alex

You say that her wings are clipped. Do I have to take her to vet, or should I wait? She is very active and energic.

Also, I saw a disease named French Moult when I research my budgie problem. Do you think she has French Moult?

Hi phillw,

Now it is night in my country but I am adding all the photos that I have.

Also do you think his feather will grow if I wait?

Thank you both for your answers.

Your budgies don't have French molt- they look completely normal for clipped budgies
Their wings will grow back once they go through a full molting cycle. I would recommend taking them to a vet just to make sure they're both healthy, but I wouldn't be concerned at all about the wings

Thank you Hunterkat, I am happy that you think she has no French Moult

And what is your opinion for Alex? What is its gender?

Regards

Alex looks to be a handsome little boy Since you have a male and a female, be sure you take all necessary steps to avoid breeding

Chubby and Alex are a cute "couple" meaning Alex looks to be a Male to me also.
Poor little Chubby has to patiently wait for his feathers to grow back, non FM there

My Chester has moulted out almost all of his long wing feathers too poor little guy, but hey, makes him very strong as he has to work extra hard to keep up with Oliver, when they do rounds of the living room

The birds' feathers are perfectly normal with no signs of French Molt. Chubby will be just fine after her molt.
Alex is a darling little boy.

Best wishes!

Thank you for all your answers

Hi FaeryBee,

I saw that you talked about perches, I bought a Hagen vision m02 cage, and now I will buy wooden perches as you suggested.

Thank you all
