Default Budgie twitching?

Hi guys!

Today I came home to see one of my budgies (Lucky) on the cage floor twitching. I quickly got him, and he continued to twitch. By twitching I mean his head would jolt to the left, his right foot would go up, and he would lose his balance. When left alone, he would twitch, almost fall over, and go in circles. A similar situation happened to him about a year ago, but he went back to normal. Right now, Iím just holding him, and he is just twitching over and over again, every second. I canít go to the Vet since I donít have the funds to do so. Whats wrong?

Welcome to talk budgies. Sorry to hear of this issue with your little bird. It would be impossible for anyone here to tell you exactly what is wrong with your bird. I urge you to talk to the closest avian vet office, tell them what is going on and your inability to pay for treatment. Perhaps they can work out an affordable payment plan for you. The description of symptoms you describe sound's very serious in nature, and you really should try to get help for this little bird. Please keep us posted, prayer's for you and your little friend....

Lucky ended up losing his battle. Now Sunny is all alone. I don?t know what to do. I can?t imagine letting Sunny live by herself, but I don?t really wanna get another budgie.

I'm sorry for the loss of Lucky.

It's very important to make sure, as a pet owner that you have funds for emergency treatment so that lack of money is not an issue in the future. You need to make an effort to save a little weekly or monthly so money isn't an issue in the future for Sunny.

Depending on if Sunny has lived with Lucky her whole life, it might be wise, to consider either trying to get an older friend for her, or as you state you don't want another budgie, you could look to find a responsible owner and rehome her to someone who might have other birds and so she could have company again.

But either way, it's important to take some time and allow yourself and Sunny time to grieve before any decisions are made. Don't rush into anything.

I'm very sorry for your loss of Lucky.

Part of owning a pet is ensuring you always have the necessary funds to ensure it receives the best veterinary care in the event of an injury or illness.

Therm has given you excellent advice.

Sunny needs time to adjust to being a solo budgie. If you spend additional time with him and give him lots of TLC, he may be just fine on his own.

It is important you set up an emergency fund so you have funds to care for Sunny if/when necessary.

https://talkbudgies.com/general-budgi...e-expense.html

If you are unable to provide Sunny the care he needs and/or it appears after several weeks time that he would be happier with a new friend, then rehoming him to someone who can give him the care and companionship he requires will be your best course of action.

I'm closing this thread.

If you wish to make a tribute or memorial to Lucky, you may do so in the "In Memory" section of the forum.

You may begin a new thread addressing Sunny's adjustment in the General Budgie Talk section of the forum if you wish.
