The day after getting luna, I noticed she was a bit fluffy but it wasn't alarming as she appeared bright eyed and engaged.
Over the weekend, she seemed to get worse. Yesterday her vent was pasted, she cleaned most of it off and I caught and cleaned off more. She is finally starting to settle in and eat, have not seen her drinking.
This morning, she appears more puffed up and her eyes are slightly closed. Her beak has blackish feces smeared on it from cleaning herself.
I called the store I got her from, they would take her back, board her and take her to a vet of their choice. I didn't like that at all so I called my exotic vet and we have a appointment for 12 today.
So far blue boy isn't showing any signs but since he came from the same place, I'm going to assume he could be sick too. Hopefully the vet will give enough meds to treat them both.
This girl is going to drive me batty. Ran to the pet store to get a travel cage, get back and she is acting more normal. Eating with gusto and reprimanding her friend when he touches her lol.
Maybe she just didn't feel good from not eating/drinking for a few days. She is still going to the vet though. I hate that I have to stress her like this, she isn't going to be happy being caught and put in a tiny cage.
EDIT: back from the vet. Luna doesn't appear to have any illness. She is a good weight, heart and lungs sound perfect. Doc thinks its intestinal upset from stress and just wants to wait and see how she does. If she doesn't get better soon or gets worse, he will put her on a antibiotic. He feels meds at this point could upset her digestive tract more.
I'm pleased too. I've seen this vet before for a snake, he seems to be pretty good for a small town exotic vet. He was very good with luna, even though she bit the snot out of him lol.
Luna has been full of herself since I got her home. Eating and being a crabby hen to her cage mate.
I can't believe the pet store expected me to just drop her off and not have any say in her treatment. I'm sure they would have stuck her in back with other sick animals and that would have been the end for her.
I absolutely hate that I had settle buying from a box store but I'm thrilled with Luna so I guess it worked out in the end, especially for her.
Thank you for the ACV link. I was wondering what I could use for probiotics. The only one the vet had was a gel that I would have to administered by hand twice a day, that would have been too stressful for her.
