Default Scaly Mites?

Smol is starting another moult, but his cere is worrying me a bit. It's turned a bit of a strange colour around the nares and is peeling a bit. His beak also looks like it's starting to peel.

I remember reading somewhere that budgies shed the skin on their ceres and beaks when they moult, but I'm wondering if this is actually something worse.

Here's some pics:

Sorry they're a bit out of focus he didn't want to be photographed at that moment haha

I think Smol is just fine.
From the pictures it appears little Smol's cere and beak are simply peeling a bit.
I see no sign of scaly mites.

Keep an eye on him for the next few days and if you see significant changes in his cere/beak during that period, post some new pictures in this thread.

Best wishes!

Hi again!

So again I have the scaly mites fear. Smol is still moulting, but this evening he seems particularly itchy in the beak/cere area.

Since it's night here I can't take a picture, but the peeling of the beak and cere has gotten a bit more noticeable, especially around the edges of his beak.

How long does it take for scaly mites to get very noticeable? I first posted this topic at the beginning on March, would it have been extremely noticeable by now? Or does it worsen slowly?

I'll post an updated pic of his beak tomorrow.

To be honest I'm sick of staring at horrifying pictures of really bad scaly mites.

From your description it sounds as though he's fine.
However, until we see a picture, we can't comment for certain on Smol's condition.

Here's a pic I took this morning, it was the best I could do since he didn't want to be photographed this morning haha

You can see around the edge of his beak is peeling, and his cere too. I'm going insane trying to identify the difference between just some normal peeling and the very beginning of scaly mites. This change did happen over the course of a month as opposed to a few days, so hopefully that is a good thing?

Mites are honestly my worst nightmare and I think my own fear of parasites is making me go crazy.

EDIT: Here are a couple better pictures taken this afternoon:

Deanna, Smol is fine . Thank you for the good clear pics. I know how it is to see something about our beloved animal family members, and have worry take over.

Good news is, you don’t have to worry any longer about Smol . He is one of my favorite little guys here .

Phew, thank you so much! I know I am a nervous wreck about my pets, especially the smaller more fragile ones. I always worry about all the weird diseases that they can possibly pick up. I guess dogs are that way too, but they are so much more vocal about when they're uncomfortable. That's why this forum is so valuable to me! Thank you all for helping me and putting up with my paranoia : )

And wow thank you that is so nice to hear! I'll be sure to tell Smol he's got some amazing fans : )

Smol is just fine with no sign of scaly mites.
AND, he is just as handsome as ever!

I'm closing this thread now.
