Default Brown stuff above my budgie's cere

Hello everyone,

My budgie has been getting some brown stuff above his nostrils in the feathered part of his face. I notice it on the morning, but by the evening it's completely gone. His nostrils look perfectly fine, and not crusty. It's just some brown stuff above the nostrils on his feathers. Is this bad? I noticed this the day before yesterday, and felt relived when I checked him in the evening and the brown stuff was gone, but it's coming back again. I tried looking it up, and came up with an answer that my budgie might have a cold, but he has no discharge from his nostrils, at least that I can tell, and his cere and nostrils are not covered in any brown stuff or are crusty at all, and I have not seen him sneeze once since I got him. I tried looking in the stickies, but couldn't find an answer that would explain what my budgie has. Any advice would be immensely appreciated!!

Alan,
It sounds as though your budgie may be starting his molt. If you post a full-frontal picture of the budgie taken in natural light showing the cere and the area above it, that would be very helpful.

I don’t see any brown staining, but I know what you are referring to. If no other “symptoms” are present, and your budgie is acting fine, there is nothing to worry about.

Thank you for your response Julie! He is acting fine, and the brown stain is more visible in the morning, but evening its mostly gone. My budgie acts just fine and his vent is clean and he chirps like normal. I think I can now breathe a sigh of relief, haha.
