Hi everyone, I think my little bird may be sick. I noticed something off with his breathing about three nights ago. He was making squeaky sounds, but I didn't think anything of it as it stopped shortly after I went to pick him up. I just assumed he had a piece of millet or a seed hull in his throat.
Well since then, I've noticed it's back, and he's doing it more frequently. I fear it's an upper respiratory infection, but aside from the breathing he's as alert and upbeat as he's always been.
So my question is, do you think this is something I should take him to an e-vet for or just wait a few more hours (it's 4AM) for another vet?
I’d personally make an appointment at the surgery as soon as the vets opens today as I don’t think that these few hours will likely make a difference to the outcome.
I’d try to let him rest for a few hours. You could try to ease his symptoms with some steam treatment in the meantime.
I'm very sorry to hear your little budgie is ill.
Try giving him Guardian Angel/Pedialyte to ensure his electrolytes are balanced.
Put his cage in the bathroom and run hot water in the shower to get the room moist and steamy.
That will help to open his airways while you wait until the Avian Vet opens to get him in for the proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
Please be sure to update us on is condition.
I'm wishing your little guy a full and speedy recovery.

Hi, all! Just wanted to let you know that he was checked out yesterday and everything looked normal. I'm not sure what the deal is, maybe he really did just have something in his throat, but he's not making any weird noises anymore. The vet said if things got worse over the weekend the blue beast would be given an antibiotic, but right now it seems like that probably won't happen. Thank you for all the info!
