Default Scaley face mites

Hello my boy/girl is around 6 or 7 months old. I posted on here to find out what sex he/she might be? And someone has pointed out she might have scaley face mites? Can anyone have a look at the picture for me and let me know their thoughts please? And what I need to do for treatment if so?

Yes I agree; if that isnít food stuck on the side of her beak then it looks like scaly face mites.

Whilst a vet appointment would be best, the treatment is available without a prescription; itís ivermectin (check that itís the correct dose) which is a liquid applied on the back of the birdís neck. The medication needs reapplying a couple of weeks later.

All birds in that environment should be treated, whether they are showing signs of infection or not.
The cage and accessories should also be thoroughly cleaned.
Itís usually a very effective treatment, so donít worry.

Julia has given you great advice above. It is a fairly common ailment, and as mentioned, Ivermectin is usually a very effective treatment. Youíll need to make sure your dosing correctly of course. Let us know how it goes .
