Tallulah diagnosed with airsacculitis

Just got back from the vets with my little butterball Tallulah. This morning when I got her and her sisters up I noticed that she still seemed sleepy, was puffed up and her breathing seemed a bit labored (noticeable tail bobbing) her poop was also very watery. I called the vet and they said I could bring her in right away. The dr. says she has airsacculitis He put her on Orbax antibiotic drops (2 drops once a day) and said to keep her apart from Scout & Rumer until she is done with her meds (7 days). There are no avian vets in my area and though the dr's bio says "He is interested in exotic animal medicine, particularly snake and bird medicine", he made a point of telling me that he doesn't normally see birds this small...

Which is what brings me here...does anyone on here have any experience with airsacculitis? Is there anything else I should do other than the meds and keeping them apart?

Sorry Tallulah is not feeling well, in the picture you posted she looks young, how long have you had her? Airsacculitis is an inflammatory condition of the air sacs, which can be due to a bacterial infection. I am not familiar with the medicine you have been given, how are you giving it, is it directly into the mouth? Since the vet you saw admittedly does not usually see small birds it may be best to try and find a vet that has more experience with all sizes of birds. Watch your other birds closely to make sure that they do not also begin to show symptoms. Make sure Tallulah stays warm and when a bird is ill it is best to limit their activity so they can use their strength to heal.

I agree with Cody. I'd look for an Exotic Pet Veterinarian that has experience with small birds as that individual will have a better knowledge base to work from with your little Tallulah, especially since the vet you saw made a point of telling you he doesn't normally work with birds this small.

Is she puffed up? Do you think she is at the bottom of the cage because of the problem with her foot and is unable to perch? If you want to put her back in the cage you can pad the bottom of the cage with soft towels, put some paper towels over top of the towels so she does not get her nails stuck, keep food and water where she can get to it. Where in South Carolina are you?

I saw your other thread about your loss of darling little Tallulah and you have my deepest sympathy.
