Default Possible French Moult?

Hi Guys, I hope everyone is well. I have a question about my girl JoJo. She turned 2 at the end of December and was totally fine at her last annual vet checkup in May last year. Soon after that, her feathers started to grow crooked. It was her flight feathers at first, then a few other feathers here and there. The feathers seem to almost bend in the middle of the shaft. She has moulted out damaged feathers and the new feathers grow in crooked as well. It started with just being bent or crooked but now Iím noticing the same, crooked feathers are a bit shabby. Iíve attached some pics so hopefully you can see what Iím talking about. JoJo does not make it easy for me to get photos! I researched and someone had a similar problem and it was determined their budgie had French Moult. I hadnít even considered this as JoJo doesnít look like any FM budgie Iíve seen before. Oh, she can fly but she is slower than the others and she doesnít fly laps. She just flies from point A to point B. Her landings are a bit off too. Sorry for the long post. I wanted to give as much information as I could. Could JoJo have French Moult? If not, does anyone know why her feathers are growing in crooked? Thank you for your help.

I don't have any advice but am sorry to hear that this is happening. I hope you figure it out and that JoJo is doing better soon.

She looks perfectly healthy other than the bent feathers.

Unless JoJo starts actually losing her feathers, I don't believe it's French Molt.
It appears to me they may be bent because of the way she preens herself.

Did you look closely at each feather to see if you can tell if there is an actual break in the feather shaft causing it to bend? One of my birds likes to bite tails and after she does that the tail looks bent about an inch or so up from the tip. Could another of your birds be doing something similar?

Yes, she is perfectly healthy other than the bent feathers and her feathers arenít falling out. This is why I never considered French Moult, and Iím very relieved that you donít believe thatís the cause. I have examined some bent feathers that sheís lost and the shaft appears perfectly normal. Iíve attached a pic of a bent feather she dropped a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I canít capture how obvious the bend is. She shares a cage with Peanut and he doesnít pull on her feathers, or even preen her, nor do the other boys when theyíre all out together. Like FaeryBee said though, JoJo could be doing this herself when she preens. If you have any other ideas, Iíd love to hear them. Thanks so much for your time.

It looks like it's only on her right wing. Yes or No? Doesn't look like FM.

It is only the left wing, but sheís also had a few elsewhere, like on her back and under her. Itís hard to explain but she had one medium length led feather that bent back under her bottom

It isn't French Molt.
I'm almost sure it's occurring from the way she's preening herself.

Thank you, this is good to know and a huge relief. Of course, Iíll monitor her closely and will mention it to her vet when we see her next.
