Default Dead pine into perches?

So my parent's beloved pine tree died over the winter. They're planning to cut it down soon so I might sneak a few of the branches out. It's good straight, dry wood so I was planning to make some perches out of them. (On the list of safe wood there is pine.) But how should I cure it? I already have some smaller pieces and they're just sitting in the sun for now. If there is anything I missed or need to make sure to do please include that. Thanks

I also have some live aspen in my yard, how would I prepare that?

You can prep all safe woods for perches in the same way.
Make sure that the trees the branches are coming from have not been treated with any chemicals or pesticides and are not near roadways.

You can "cure" it in a 250 degree oven for abut 30 - 45 minutes if the branches will fit.

Or, you can use white vinegar to wipe down the wood and then simply let it cure in the sun.
