I'm not allowed to take him to the vet because my dad doesn't care about them and thinks they're too small to "waste money" on, and there isn't anyone that can drive me to the vet either. The most I can do is try to make him comfortable and care for him at home. He only lets me get vet care for my conure. Trust me, if I could, I would take him to the vet in an instant.
My dad found the budgie outside and we've been taking care of him for a few months. I'm guessing someone accidentally let him fly out of the window or door and he escaped.
He's really wobbly on his feet and doesn't have the strength to fly anymore. He still grooms himself a lot and he stumbles to his food bowl to eat. His droppings are wet and yellowish.
I've been keeping him warm with a small heater. Should I take him out and clean his vent, straighten out some of his feathers, or would that be too much stress on him? How can I get him to take in some more water, and are there any at-home care tips that I can get?
Even though he isn't technically my bird, I still feel really bad.
Anything I can soak millet spray in so he can consume something that might help him feel better?
Some updates: he seems to be eating fine, definitely more than yesterday. I dipped a leaf of baby spinach in some Pedialyte (unfortunately couldn't find any sugar-free bottles but I had the nonflavor kind at home) and he was eating that, so I know he's got at least a little bit of hydration. I mixed some cayenne pepper into his seeds.
At that time you stated in your post that you could not take your budgie to the vet but did not explain why.
When I took the time to reply to your posting and asked questions, you never even bothered to answer.
That disturbs me.
I'm hoping you can reason with your father and get this budgie the medical care it needs.
